COMPETENT PERSON TRAINING
A one-day, engaging 8-hour course that contains essential information for those who work in and around excavations. Some of the main topics covered are:
What are the hazards in excavation
What are the solutions to those hazards
What are the rules that apply to excavations
This course fulfills the training requirement to become a “Competent Person”, and also teaches employees what the excavation hazards and rules are that apply to the duties they are required to perform.
COMPETENT PERSON REFRESHER COURSE
A 4-hour course that refreshes properly CP trained personnel in the essential information for those who work in and around excavations. This course is not designed to replace a full competent person training class. It helps the individual brush up on some of the topics that tend to need refreshing on a regular basis. Some of the main topics covered are:
Overview of the hazards in excavation
Overview of the solutions to those hazards
Overview of the rules that apply to excavations
This course fulfills the requirement for the on-going training needed to remain a “Competent Person”, and also teaches employees what the excavation hazards and rules are that apply to the duties they are required to perform in and around excavations.
COMPETENT PERSON DEFINITION
Competent Person: One who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in his/her surroundings, or working conditions that are unsanitary, hazardous or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.
Intent: In order to be a “competent person” for the purpose of this standard, one must have had specific training in, and be knowledgeable about, soil analysis, the use of protective systems and the requirements of this standard, and must be designated by the employer.
